Kagay-an Festival (August 28,2007)

Last August 27-28,2007, we Kagayanons has experienced a very spectacular celebration of the feast of St. Agustin; the patron saint of Cagayan De Oro City. Viva Senior San Agustin!!! The shouts of the street dancers as they do their Higaonon dance steps while the crowd was also cheering and rejoicing going along with the beating of their ethnic musics. This year’s festival is anchored on the city’s indigenous tradition, the Higaonons, one of the tribes in Mindanao that was considered the original settlers of the Cagayan de Oro and the Misamis Oriental areas. The celebration pointed out that the warmth of the Cagayanon friendship and hospitality is something that makes Cagayan de Oro entirely different from other places in the country. And this years festivals shows oneness among the Cagayanons as it was manifested with various competitions such as street dancing, golden float competition, the fluvial parade and other activitites like horse back riding, agro-industrial trade fair, motor cross show and a lot lot more. I have managed to get some of the pictures of the celebration. Hope you will find it interesting. *wink*
